Popularity: 3 Vote: | Everyday I strive to, at least, recognise my short-comings and the things I have to do to be the best person that I can possibly be. |
Popularity: -2 Vote: | For a small town man coming from Natchez, Mississippi, it's almost like Elvis Presley coming from Tupelo, Mississippi. |
Popularity: 6 Vote: | I do thank God. God's very much instrumental in my life inspite of me. That's how good God is. How forgiving God is. How patient God is. And I do feel that he has some work for me to do which is more than I'm doing. God's always at the party. |
Popularity: -2 Vote: | I knew that I was going to make it. There was no doubt in my mind that I'd make it. |
Popularity: -5 Vote: | I love to get funky. I do. I mean, it's big fun. I think a lot of my fans might say my forte are ballads, but I've always looked at myself as a funkster, that's the difference between Alexander O'Neal and Luther Vandross. When you come to see me, you're gonna get energy and when you come to see Luther, you're gonna be sedated. |
Popularity: 3 Vote: | I'm definitely influenced by gospel, because that was like mandatory in my house for X amount of years, the singer explained. My mother sang in the choir all the time and there are a couple of singers, choir-singing church-going types in my family, but I never sang in the choir, because I was too shy. |
Popularity: -5 Vote: | If my fans want to call me a love God, then so be it! |
Popularity: 3 Vote: | It's a great time for me in my life - I'm looking forward to a lot of success. I think that of all the things that I've accomplished in my career, now is the time. I did a lot of things, and this time around, it's for my children. I've had mine - been there, did that, and now it's time to put some things right (for them). So that's what I'm focusing on. |
Popularity: 1 Vote: | Living down south, we always had great radio. Certainly great black, R&B radio. We always got the best of R&B music and so I grew up on a lot of different artists from Nat King Cole to Otis Redding and James Brown. |
Popularity: -3 Vote: | My greatest day is yet to come. Of all the things that I've accomplished, my greatest day is yet to come. But it will never come if I don't pursue it. |

Biography
|
Born on November 14, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Alexander O'Neal was a member of The Time when the group first formed in 1980, but was dropped immediately from the group, supposedly for seeming "too black". As his vocals range in the same strength as Otis Redding's, O'Neal sings in the retro-style of soul when it comes to doing it in both the dance-pop numbers and modern, urban ballads. He is considered to be one of the very best artists that former, fellow Time members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis had ever produced for. And he and Cherrelle have great chemistry together when it comes to doing the duets. O'Neal's albums are from his 1985 or'86 self-titled debut to 2002's The Saga of a Married Man. Currently, he resides in Britain where he's been touring and set up a permanent shop there.
