Biography

Ben Edwards is a popular British motorsports commentator. The best in the country, if you ask some. Edwards is currently the voice of the British Touring Car Championship for ITV. In the past, Edwards has commentated on Formula 1 for Sky Sports and Eurosport. Edwards has also called Champ Car racing and motorcycle speedway for Eurosport.

Many Formula 1 fans in Britain want James Allen moved from the commentary box for ITV's broadcast back to a pit reporter's position, which he held before replacing the retired Murray Walker. They want Edwards to replace Allen, and have gone so far as to have begun an online petition asking for this move to be made.

Edwards is known for his enthusiasm, which has made him very popular in Britain. His most famous call came for Eurosport at a 2000 Champ Car race at the Michigan International Speedway, when Juan Pablo Montoya and Michael Andretti dueled in the closing stages, with Montoya winning by just a few feet.

However, his enthusiasm (which is accompanied by a little bit of shouting) made Edwards unpopular in the United States when the American Broadcasting Company telecast four Formula 1 races (the Monaco Grand Prix, the Canadian Grand Prix, the Italian Grand Prix, and the United States Grand Prix) in 2002. ABC used Sky's audio commentary track of Edwards and former Formula 1 driver John Watson. Many American viewers became agitated with Edwards' occasional loudness. Nontheless, American viewers can still hear Edwards, as SPEED Channel broadcasts the British Touring Car Championship during the Winter months.

Edwards' past also includes an impressive resume as a racing driver. He is a former champion of the Formula First and Caterham Vauxhall series. He also raced in the Euro Vauxhall Lotus Championship against the likes of David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen.

Edwards' wife, Belinda, is the principle owner and director of Entreprix Limited. Whenever Ben isn't doing his commentary duties, he helps out in the Entreprix office and at race meetings.
