Biography

Eric Carle is a children's book author and illustrator, most famous for his book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which has been translated into 50 languages.

Carle was born in 1929 Syracuse, New York, moved to Germany when he was six. He moved to New York City in 1952, and landed a job as a graphic designer. He later moved to Northampton, Massachusetts, where he still resides today. The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, a museum devoted to children's books and founded by Carle and his wife, opened in 2002 in nearby Amherst.
