Biography

Norman Graham Hill (February 17, 1929 - November 29, 1975) was a British motor racing champion.

He was the only driver to win the Triple Crown of the Indianapolis 500, the 24 hours of Le Mans and the Formula One World Championship.

Born in Hampstead, London, Hill was known during the latter part of his career for his wit and endurance. He joined BRM as a racing driver and won the world championship with them in 1962. His second world championship came after joining Lotus in 1968. He survived several serious crashes before he retired from driving to set up his own racing team, Embassy Hill. Shortly afterwards, he was killed when his Piper Aztec aeroplane (which he was piloting at the time) crashed in foggy conditions over Arkley Golf Course in Hertfordshire. Five members of the Embassy Hill team also died in the accident.

Hill married his wife, Bette, in 1955. They had a son, Damon (who later became Formula One World Champion, the only son of a former champion to do so), and two daughters: Brigitte and Samantha.

In 1990, he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
