I've been writing a lot of songs with Annette O'Toole, my wife. We wrote "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," which is Mitch & Mickey's signature tune in A Mighty Wind. And "Potato's in the Paddy Wagon" - now there's an example... We were driving to Vancouver, and somewhere between Portland and Seattle, Annette is driving and she says, "What is this tune I have running through my head?"
In the next year or so, my signature will appear on $60 billion of United States currency. More important to me, however, is the signature that appears on my life - the strong, proud, assertive handwriting of a loving father and mother.
Each Warrior wants to leave the mark of his will, his signature, on important acts he touches. This is not the voice of ego but of the human spirit, rising up and declaring that it has something to contribute to the solution of the hardest problems, no matter how vexing!
In any event, let me suggest simply that we ask ourselves, which is a more likely threat, that we be attacked by ICBM with a return signature on it, or by some stealthy terrorist in the back of a paneled truck with some hidden device in Lower Manhattan or Los Angeles?
